Story of Late Shyamlal Bagchi and Harishpur

Harishpur and Harishpur ,the term is a story ,you just walk from Namrup Railway station and reach there ,its nine kilometer  distance from the exact location named Namrup area of Dirbugarh and the best place to visit with friends,I just walked on foot to understand the locality and my childhood teams name Aarti and Bharti were the best participants who has been running some small tea gardens in their own land in Assam now. They are  from western part of Nepal and help me lot to understand about tea productions in their lands. The pictures in facebook and the calls with Aarti regularly make me so curious to visit Harishpur .

I had been uploading the picture a saint type personality ,a great personality of my life who always helped to understand the life .His greatness is not a short story ,he is real hero in my life even an epic will be less useful to describe and narrate about him.I had been communicating my dear Suparna Bagchi Di and the greatness of Bagchi Group/Tea Estate in Assam is the essential part of my life. The green tea and other varieties of tea from Harishpur or Silk Farm of Bordubi are the real experiments of my textbook and ideas collected in social media.

Late Shyamal Chandra Bagchi assumed responsibility of Harishpur Tea Co. Pvt. Ltd. in 1961. He struggled heavily to lift the neglected and sinking property into one of the premier names in the Assam tea industry. After the family partition of 1978, he expanded the business adding three estates in Assam and one in West Bengal. The Harishpur brand came to be known worldwide for its golden, tippy tea. He started exporting to the erstwhile USSR, the USA, the UK, Germany and others. He was also heavily involved in philanthropic activities.

After his untimely, tragic death at the age of 54; his elder daughter, Suparna Bagchi along with his wife, Late Keya Bagchi, took over the mantle of the family business. Keya Bagchi was known to all as a tragically fierce woman, who after her husband’s death, did not let the family business and the thousands of people dependent on it suffer. She also carried on her husband’s charitable activities with equal gusto. The younger daughter, Sumona Bagchi, became a doctor and runs a medical establishment, “S. C. Bagchi Arogya Sadan”, in Howrah city of West Bengal.

Today, Harishpur Tea is a force to be reckoned with in the tea industry. The Harishpur ecosystem is such where everybody involved is made to feel like the member of one large family. Harishpur is ISO and TRUSTEA certified: a mark of its commitment and quality.

Harishpur moved into the tea retail market in 1991 with its label “Green Pearl” which was the first professional venture of Suparna Bagchi. Today, Harishpur tea is being marketed under the brand “Revv-Up” and is available at stores in India, Canada and the USA.

The Harishpur ecosystem revolves around the ideals of QualiTEA, CommuniTEA and HospitaliTEA. Harishpur has continued to drive R&D efforts towards better quality of produce and safer working conditions. Harishpur works with its employees to preserve their cultural traditions and practices. To open up the world of tea to consumers and visitors, a tea tourism initiative has been initiated. Visitors will be given an experience of the process of making tea, ethnic culture, and visits to local places of interest.

Harishpur works towards the social upliftment of the rural population. The Shyamal Smriti Nyas, a trust named after Late Shyamal Chandra Bagchi provides medical assistance and professional guidance and help in education matters to needy people and children of the surrounding areas. The Keya Bagchi Foundation, a trust named after Late Keya Bagchi, works towards preserving ethnic culture and handicrafts, providing necessary training and creating marketing channels for rural artisans. Harishpur also works towards popularizing agriculture as a profession amongst the rural youth, encouraging them to adopt modern practices and use scientific means for the same.

The present generations of the family vow to keep the torch burning bright, to further the family's name in tea cultivation, manufacture and marketing, in sync with modern processes and requirements, to satisfy the tea cravings of a global market.

The story of Late Shyamlal Bagchi is not limited to a short note about a man of success ,its a story of real hero I saw everyday, talked everyday,a man with the leadership is the major part of my note because his heroism is the matter of publicity,a novella can be shorter to note down his deeds, with the heart felt salute to his spirit I just close my eyes to realize his presence in this world.

I just remember the day of picnic how he described everything to all the charms of the unity in life with natural phenomenal description of the ecosystem in familial life .The days with warm sun relates his bravity to our unconscious we just feel the greatness of his life through his pictures.I do not know how a novel or an article can sum up one deed but simple line or sketch of someone you like in life is the great victory of your life.
